where the 787 dreamliner is turning into a bit of a night may for boeing as the airplanes are under investigation after back-to-back days of problems in boston. yesterday one of the jets spilled about 40 gallons of fuel on the runway at logan international airport. that's one day after an electrical fire caused by an exploding battery grounded a different dreamliner plane, also at logan airport. for more on boeing's troubles, let's go to jeff cutmoore in london. >> reporter: good morning to you. i suppose the good news here is ana has orders for 45 more jets, and they said we will to the change our orders. clearly this is a headache for boeing, because they have been beset by a slew of problems with the technicals on this wide-bodied jet. there are a whole bunch of other companies lined up here to take them, virgin airways, british airways, they will want to see some of these technical problems sorted out before they get delivery. worth pointing out the stock down over 4% over the last couple of trading days as a result of these concerns. >> we wonder if there will be cancellations
.s. regulators ordering a review of boeing 787 dream liner after a series of incidents which put a question mark over the safety of boeing's flagship plane. the shares this week have taken a hit. down another 2% in today's trading session because two more problems with 787s on domestic japanese flights today. there was an oil leak and the other a cracked windshield. phil lebeau is tracking information from washington. >> the ntsb said, this is af plane, feel confident if you are playing it. at the same time, the faa launched a special review looking at reliability and safety of the 787 dreamliner. it'll be run by the faa. but boeing will be assisting in that review and so will some of the suppliers, no doubt, as they look at electronics and use of lithium ion batteries on the dreamliner. remember a lithium ion battery was traced to be the source of the fire of the 787 that caught on fire while parked at a gate in boston on monday. in 2007 the faa made special rules for the use of lithium ion batteries on airplanes because of flammability can concerns. with all of that said, listen to what the he

to begin with the plane boeing says will define the future of the air travel. but for the last month or so, if you've been following this with us, the 787 dreamliner has made most of its headlines really for all these mechanical problems. here is just the latest, just a couple of hours ago, this japan airline, 787, was preparing to leaf above then when it started leaking fuel. so guess what happened? flight had to be canceled. and just yesterday morning, same airport, boston's logan airport, small fire broke out on yet another japan airline 787, just about 30 minutes after its arrival from tokyo. all the passengers and crew, they had already left the plane, but there is still a lot to talk about when we talk about what is supposed to be the revolutionary jet. let me begin with sandra endo, watching today's issue for us from washington. sandra, what happened now? >> yeah, brooke. a new day, a new problem for boeing's marquis airplane, the dreamliner, just before noon us is, the pilots of jal flight 007 scheduled nonstop from boston logan airport to tokyo, reported a fuel leak on the runway.
know more straight ahead. the time 7:31. >> thank you. new in just a few hours the new boeing dream liner jet will take off from san jose's airport for the first time and just moments ago the faa wrapped up a news conference tied to the growing concerns about the safety of that type of jet. we are live from the airport in san jose. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. all over san jose international airport there are signs advertising the airline, ana, it's flight to tokyo. it takes off at 11:45 a.m. in the last hour we were able to learn about the investigation in to the air craft that will be flying that route. the faa and the department of transportation announced at a news conference that they will be conducting a major review of boeing's 787 dream liner's electrical system. this week a flight on ana had to be canceled because of brake problems with the plane. that followed a fuel leak that happened on a 787 that had to cancel takeoff in boston and prior to that on monday a dream liner operated by japan airlines experienced a fire in its battery. the head of the department o

to get the secretary of state to drop it on russia or chinese leaders about boeing or lockheed? how does that happen? >> this is where the washington turf battles come in. actually, ostensibly, this is the job of the commerce department. there has been a program created right after the cold war called commercial advocacy. where major corporations, big companies can like boeing and lockheed, because they were the -- you know, the only company in their market, could apply to the commerce department and basically get officials to lobby for them and be their corporate cheerleaders for clearance. and you're talking about for government contracts. so if pudin -- these are government officials in other countries making the decisions to buy billions of dollars of airplanes from boeing. so hillary clinton is the one who gets to meet them and that means something. or the secretary of state does. so what clinton has done is she said, well, we're going to try to take some of this portfolio from the commerce department, because we're bigger -- the commerce department has been without a confirmed lead

reflected in shares of boeing which has ticked lower since these reports came out. there was a fire this morning on a 787 dreamliner parked at logan airport in boston. it is our understanding according to information we're getting out of boston that the fire has been put out. there were no passengers, no crew on the plane. what's unclear is what started this fire, whether it was something electrical, the plane, if there was something else. we've got a call into boeing to get more details. all we heard from boeing is they're going to be looking into these reports. so they're getting this information as quickly as we're getting this information. but the important thing to keep in mind here, carl, is that this is the fourth incident regarding a dreamliner. remember, we had the two reports from united of dream liners losing some power, some degree of power while in flight and then also a similar report regarding the first flight going over the qatar airways over doha. so now we have a report out of boston of a fire at logan airport on a 787 dreamliner, parked at a gate, no passengers, n
of a massive plane at logan international airport. turns out to be a boeing dreamliner. well the national transportation safety board is now launching a full investigation. this could be just one of several problems with the dreamliner, which was launched with so much fan nare. dan springer has details for us from seattle. >> reporter: yeah, jon the national transportation safety board has a team in boston right now investigating what they are calling a 787 boeing smoke event. it happened shortly after all the passengers and crew had got even off the plane at logan airport. they had just taken a 12-hour japan airlines flight from tokyo. a maintenance worker smelled smoke and traced it to a compartment near the back of the dreamliner which holds the lithium battery that powers the plane when it's not flying. a battery eventually exploded, the cabin filled up with smoke but nobody was hurt. had this happened during a flight it could have been catastrophic. it adds to the list of electrical problems the 787 has experienced since there was a major fire during a test flight in 2010. in decembe
